Agricultural Manufacturer Cuts Costs 50% at Danish Production Site with Smart Factory Logistics
GEA is a leading global supplier of technology and production equipment for the food industry. GEA’s deliverables range from individual components and process steps to complete production and packaging lines for the production of dairy and food products, ingredients and beverages.
Food giant GEA has just completed the implementation of Bossard’s inventory management system, giving the Mullerup plant annual cost savings of almost 50 percent on B- and C-part management. The solution improves business productivity by centralizing the live monitoring of inventory of certain items. This ensures that the company does not run out of fasteners such as screws and nuts.
Danish agriculture may very well become more efficient in the future as more and more companies are focusing on digital solution in order to streamline production. An excellent example of development that is transforming traditional manufacturing companies into smart factories through digitalization, automation and wireless communications is GEA Farm Technologies Mullerup, a manufacturer of automated feeding systems for cattle.
”We have followed the smart factory development closely and have invested in digital technology in order to be competitive in the short and long term,” says Jacob Aagaard, purchaser at GEA. He continues that “the Bossard solution allows the system to simplify and streamline the most time- and resource-intensive processes. The implementation was done in three steps: from manual disposition to the two-box system and later on to SmartBin. This has reduced inventory and internal logistics costs and has ensured a high reliability of supply.”
The factory in Mullerup employs about 30 people. They can now focus on core competencies and run a more efficient production.
This smart Inventory Management will ensure competition with foreign countries
Danish companies, like companies in many other countries, are under a great deal of pressure because production costs are high compared to the rest of Europe and especially China and Russia. Investments are the only way to go, says Martin Andersen, Sales Manager at Bossard Denmark: “We are experiencing growing demand for quality solutions and support from Danish production companies who are competing on both quality and efficiency. This is particularly necessary in the agricultural and food industry. We are pleased to cooperate with GEA Farm Technologies, and we expect to support them in making their production even more efficient.”
